Like most people (I suspect), there are days I love my job and days I'm less than thrilled with it.
The AngryJournalist.com site is a place where journalists can vent anonymously. If you want to see some consistently negative trends in the field, you can read through some of the comments on the site. Seems that there's more work than current staffing can handle. There's layoffs or attrition and those lucky enough to still have their jobs end up doing twice the work (I think that's happening in most fields, not just journalism). The dividing line between advertising and editorial is also becoming blurry. And like most careers, there's a consistent complaint that management is out of touch with the workforce in the field.
One thing I'm thankful for is that I still enjoy the creative aspects of my job (writing, producing interactives, doing interviews on and off camera) and do have a lot of job satistfaction in that area. And I work with some amazing people whose company I enjoy.
But, next time I feel like kvetching, it's nice to know I have an anonymous place to vent.
