Marisol and I are back in Newport again for the JVC Newport Jazz Festival. We got here at 2:00 p.m. and checked in to the beautiful Hotel Viking. We're really happy with our room and even happier that I was able to set up my wireless router so we can both use our laptops. I'm such a total geek to actually bring my wireless router on vacation! But, I will be doing some work on Sunday.
This afternoon we walked around, did some people watching in the "tony part of town" (that's what Marisol calls it -- she's all "Please, there's a Talbot's on the corner!") We had a light lunch at a little restaurant right before our "luxurious spa treatment" (Marisol again -- can you tell she's chiming in as I write this?)
Marisol got the hot stone massage and she says she loved the way they put little pebbles between her toes. I had a "medley" message which meant it was combination Swedish and sports. It was a great massage up until I had to roll over on my back.
For some reason, whenever I have a massage after not having had one for a while I get these horrible cramps in my calves and my feet. That's what happened and my masseur said, "Don't worry, I'll work it out, just breathe and flex your foot." He bent my foot in a direction that it didn't want to go and I saw stars, screamed, and leapt off the table, grabbing my towel like a toreador and quickly wrapping it around myself as I frantically walked back and forth to make the cramps stop. I was in too much pain to be the slightest bit embarrassed. Anyway, once it worked itself out I got back on the table and finished the massage which was great -- worked out a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders from being on the computer all day, and we did a lot of work on my hands because they are stressed out from all the typing and needlework.
I gave him an extra tip -- above and beyond the 20% that's included -- for having to put up with my hysteria. I'm sure it gave him something funny to tell the other staff members after we left the spa!
We went to a store on Thames Street called The Music Box and bought these really cool t-shirts (and a mug for Denise) from a company called Life is Good.
Then we had a lovely dinner at Sardella's, an Italian restaurant which we were thrilled to find. It has taken us over a year to find it. Last year we went looking for this great Italian restaurant that we thought was called Spardello's which turned out to be a men's clothing store!
Now we're back at the hotel, enjoying our connectivity thanks to my wireless router and are going to watch a movie (The Interpreter). See ya tomorrow!!!
