Campbell Robertson of the New York Times skewers media (and public) obsession with the Lachey-Simpson split and gets a few shots in at the "did Bush mislead America" debate at the same time. Here's an excerpt from All the Publicist's Men - New York Times.
What we felt can be described as shock. Also awe. In September, Ms. Simpson looked us straight in the eye, though granted she had a glass of Macallan in front of her, and said, referring to a possible separation, "Nobody gets the exclusive on that because it's not going to happen." Twelve words. Twelve words that somehow made it into her answer and have now been shown to be untrue. We were skeptical at the time: Mr. Lachey's alleged fondness for bachelor party entertainment had been reported in reputable journals. But the denials bounced around the Celebrity echo chamber, even at times shot up the stovepipe, leaving us rather dizzy.
