Well, I'm already off to a weird week.
I interviewed Spike Lee on Monday about his very important upcoming HBO documentary "When The Levees Broke, A Requiem In Four Acts." I had heard he was a difficult interview, but I thought that I had prepared well, knew the material, and could maybe draw on my own experiences working for the Red Cross on Katrina.
Unfortunately, that wasn't enough.
Spike didn't look me in the eye when he answered my questions, which was kind of odd.
As soon as the video is on the Web site I'll put a link here and then you can tell me what you think.
That was yesterday in the morning, and then I went to the news room for an hour or so and for most of the rest of the day we covered the 15,000th episode of Guiding Light which was really fun. We interviewed some of the actors, shot them rehearsing and taping the episode, and then in the afternoon we came back for a group photo of all the actors.
Most of the actors were really nice, and we got a great interview with Kim Zimmer who plays Reva, the lead on the show. But, my favorite of all was the young man that plays Remy, Vincent St. John. He was so not "actor-y" -- very genuine and sweet. I also liked Steven Newman, who plays Josh. I've filed him under "how come I never meet a guy liked that who's unattached?" in my "why I'm still single" folder.
Today I interviewed Stephen Baldwin which was...interesting. He's the youngest of the Baldwin family of actors, who had a reputation of being a Hollywood bad boy and is now an evangelical Christian with an extreme sports ministry called Livin' It and a new book about what he calls his conversion.
Yeah, go back and re-read that. I'll wait.
I got some good childhood anecdotes and then he talked about how he became born again, how it's affected his acting career and about his plans for his ministry -- and an upcoming reality show.
He also defended Mel Gibson and said that the Gibson's anti-Semitic rant was a result of his drinking. He also explained that Gibson is a victim of evil spiritual forces that are combating him because he is trying to spread the true word of God.
Oh yeah, and I found out there's no eternal life for me or anybody else that doesn't believe "the truth."
