Viacom Chief Sumner Redstone told the Wall Street Journal that Paramount Pictures is severing ties with Tom Cruise's Cruise-Wagner productions after twelve years. Redstone says it's because of Tom's unacceptable behavior, no doubt off-screen. Cruise's partner says it's the other way around and that Cruise-Wagner stopped negotiating with Viacom last week.
Nu?
Personally, I think Tom's big mistake was firing his publicist in March 2004 and hiring his sister to do the job. Ever since then Cruise has had one media meltdown after another from jumping on Oprah's couch to spewing his crackpot anti-psychiatry theories in a bizarre interview with a very brave Matt Lauer.
Last November he hired Rogers and Cowan to take over as his publicists. Sis is overseeing his philanthropic work.
Amazingly, though, it hasn't hurt his box office much which makes Redstone's comments a little curious. Perhaps Redstone thinks that the actor's behavior will eventually be his undoing. Or maybe he's just difficult to work with because of his, um, intensity.
Or maybe Cruise-Wagner demanded too much doughski for a new contract.
There will be plenty more media discussion about this today, trust me!
